Faulty Irrigation Valves Were Behind Those High Water Bills

Water bills have a way of creeping up slowly enough that most people just chalk it up to seasonal use. But when the numbers keep climbing month after month with no clear reason, that's usually a sign something is leaking - and leaking quietly.

That's exactly what we were dealing with here. The culprit turned out to be 2 faulty irrigation valves tucked along the side of the house. These things sit outside, get ignored, and quietly bleed water whether the system is running or not. No puddles in the yard. No obvious signs of trouble. Just a water bill that keeps going up.

Irrigation valves like these control the flow to individual zones in a sprinkler system. When the internal components wear out or fail, they don't fully shut off. Water keeps moving through even when the system is off. We pulled the bad valves, replaced them with fresh Orbit anti-siphon sprinkler valves, and got everything buttoned back up properly.

This kind of repair doesn't look dramatic from the outside - but the difference shows up on the next water bill. A proper inspection of the irrigation system is often the fastest way to track down unexplained charges that your utility company can't explain either.
